Back on the Didg to Didg experience of Triton Squad
But what is Didg to Didg and how does it work ?
Created in 2014 at the initiative of Zalem Delarbre (a very great didgeridoo player known and recognized worldwide), this pacifist competition is based on the same principle as the Beat-box battles. First of all, each person wishing to participate has the right to send a musical presentation video to the organizing association. The latter selects the 32 best videos. Then the 32 participants are invited to come and meet in order to start the competition which takes place over 2 days.
Day 1, each participant must play 3 minutes with the didgeridoo of their choice in front of the jury (made up of 5 people) and the public. The players are rated by the jury according to the following criteria: musicality, technique, creativity, stage performance, relationship with the public. At the end of the first day the jury keeps the 16 best players.
Day 2, the pacifist battles begin. The players begin the elimination phases. In the 8th final, the 16 players meet 2 by 2. The player who starts is drawn, it is he who chooses the first didgeridoo among the imposed selection. Players are unfamiliar with these instruments and can only try them out for a few minutes. Round 1, player 1 therefore plays 1 minute 30 with the didgeridoo of his choice, then player 2 responds with the same didgeridoo. Round 2, player 2 chooses the didgeridoo, player 1 starts and player 2 answers. At the end the jury votes for the player who continues the adventure.
The principle and simple and the atmosphere is really great. There are the best players in the world. The first 4 editions were European but in 2019 during the 5th meeting, the competition becomes international.
You can find all the videos of all the competitions on the official Youtube channel: Didgeridoo Battles
